Wave Conditions and Surf Setup

Wave Characteristics

The surf here is mellow and slow-rolling, ideal for learning how to catch waves and stand up without getting tossed around. It breaks both left and right, which is perfect for practicing frontside and backside riding.

The setup is mostly a beach break, but there are a few soft reef sections that add some variation without increasing the difficulty. The waves tend to be small to medium in size, making this a spot where comfort and progression go hand in hand.

To get the best out of Popoyo Beginners Bay, look for:

Tide: Mid to high tide is ideal for soft, fuller waves

Swell: Small to medium S–SW swells work best

Wind: Light offshore breezes from the E or NE keep the face clean
